Speed dating "Libro style"

As a way to mix it up and let kids review more books in a short period of time, we did "speed dating" of books for free voluntary reading in the future. I adjusted it a bit from the handouts I gave them and we did 90 seconds, then 30 seconds more after a warning. Then I rung a bell (you can hear it at the very beginning of the video) and they passed their book to the right (2 minutes total with each book). Some wanted more time, but overall they felt that was the right amount of time.

The parameters I set were it was quiet, just like during FVR time and they had to read (or write) the whole time. A kid here and there would stare into space and I gently redirected them. I stopped them after 6 (we did 10 books total) and noted that in the "details/detalles" section, they didn't have to write the plot necessarily, just things they noted and thought were interesting. At the end, I encouraged them to chat with a friend about their favorite book they found today. I had them pass me their sheets so I could see what they liked. I was surprised how few were interested in the drama/historical ones and how many were all about the adventure and mystery/scary ones. This was good information for me in looking for future books! I gave their sheets back so they can use them for FVR in the future!

Thank you, Michael Peto and Cecile Laine for the idea! Here is the video clip: https://youtu.be/wfT_Iv5UptQ
